Cesar Azpilicueta Tanco (born 28 August 1989) is a Spanish footballer who signed for Chelsea F.C. in 2012.

Chelsea careerEdit

On 24 August 2012, in a rather unexpected move, Chelsea confirmed the signing of Azpilicueta for a fee of around £7,000,000. Four days later, he was handed the number 28 shirt for the 2012-13 season. The 22-year-old right-back, who represented Spain at the London Olympics, arrived at Stamford Bridge following a two-year spell in France's Ligue 1 with Marseille. Born on 28 August 1989 in Pamplona, Navarre, he began his career at the academy of his hometown club, Osasuna. He joined fellow countrymen Juan Mata, Oriol Romeu and Fernando Torres at Chelsea.

Aspilicueta made his debut in a 6-1 thrashing over Wolverhampton Wanderers. His first Premier League appearance came shortly after when he replaced Branislav Ivanovic midway through the second half of a 4-1 win against Norwich City, while his first league start came in the 1-1 draw with Swansea at the Liberty Stadium.
