Nemanja Matic (born 1 August 1988) is a Serbian international footballer who signed for Chelsea F.C. in 2009, and left as part of the deal for David Luiz, before returning to the club in 2014.

Chelsea careerEdit

On 18 August 2009, it was announced that Matic had signed from Kosice for a fee of £1,500,000. He was given the number 24 shirt.

He had to wait three months before his debut, coming on as a substitute in a 4-0 win over Wolves.

In the summer of 2010, Matic was sent out on loan to Dutch side Vitesse for the season. But, in January, Matic was included in a swap deal to sign David Luiz

Overt two year later however, Jose Mourinho, impressed by his performances for Benfica, made a successful offer of £21,000,000 for the Serbian, bringing him back to Stamford Bridge. He made his first reappearance for the club, coming on as a substitute in a 3-1 win over Man Utd. On 3 February 2014, Matic made his first start for the club, away at title rivals Man City. He came away with the Man of the Match award as the Blues won 1-0, giving City their first home defeat of the season.
